Aleksandr Rou and Aleksandr Ptushko

The two masters of the screen fairy tale.

Aleksandr Rou

Rou made the first Soviet fairy-tale feature, Wish Upon a Pike, in 1938, and went on to Vasilisa the Beautiful, Maria, the Wonderful Weaver, Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors, Barbara the Fair with the Silken Hair and Golden Horns, warm and funny films loved by every generation.

Aleksandr Ptushko

Ptushko was the great showman of special effects. The Stone Flower won a prize at Cannes in 1946, and Sadko, Ilya Muromets, Sampo, A Tale of Lost Times and Ruslan and Ludmila fill the screen with giants, sea kings and flying horses.
